Powerlifting is strength sport that requires the lifter to make 3 attempts at maximal weight on three separate lift disciplines: bench press, squat and deadlift. Every lifter will want to make gains in their training but there are methods and training regime that can either hinder your progress or make you training explode past a previous sticking point.
